Steven P. Zenker, M.D.

Board
certified in pediatrics, Dr. Zenker received his medical degree from Southern
Illinois University School of Medicine in Carbondale and Springfield. He
completed his residency in pediatrics at the University of Missouri Hospitals
and Clinics in Columbia, Missouri. Dr. Zenker is also a Fellow of the American
Academy of Pediatrics.
Each of the major aspects of
pediatric medicine newborn infants, children, and adolescents bring its own set
of challenges to the childcare specialist, and each brings its own set of
rewards as well.
A pediatrician not only cares for
your child when he or she is ill, but also provides well child care. This is why
the importance of regular appointments cannot be overemphasized. These visits
are an important time for the doctor to evaluate
your child’s health, administer immunizations, and provide anticipatory
guidance regarding child rearing, behavior and development. These visits also
present an excellent opportunity for you to get answers to your questions in
these areas.
The ideal way to begin your
relationship with your child’s pediatrician is to schedule a prenatal visit.
Dr. Zenker is available to you 24
hours a day if your child has a medical emergency. His staff and nurses have
been trained to help callers decide if a child needs an appointment; his nurses
also can answer many of your questions. If you with to speak with Dr. Zenker
directly, and his is unavailable, his staff will take a message and your call
will be returned.
An
informed patient is a more satisfied patient.
Your AMS pediatrician believes in
explaining your child’s condition in detail,
providing literature on his or her illness or treatment, and generally
making certain that you understand the recommended care. Your questions are
always welcome, and either Dr. Zenker or his well-trained staff will supply you
with the answers you need.

We always try to schedule
appointments that are convenient for you. Office hours are 8:30am – 4:30pm
Monday through Friday. If you are unable to keep a scheduled appointment, please
notify us 24 hours in advance. If you are late for your scheduled appointment,
we will try to accommodate you, but it may be necessary to reschedule.
If your child has an urgent
problem during office hours, call us and we will usually be able to work you in
to the day’s schedule. During evenings, weekends or holidays, for urgent
problems call the office at (618) 463-8634 or the Pediatric After Hours Service
at (888) 890-0252. They will quickly relay your message to us.
