Catherine L. Wikoff, M.D.

Board
certified in obstetrics and gynecology,
Dr. Wikoff received her medical degree from Texas A & M University in 1988.
She completed residencies in obstetrics and gynecology at Scott & White
Memorial Hospital and Texas Tech University Health Science Center. Dr. Wikoff
practiced in Blacksburg, Virginia before joining AMS.
“Gynecology” refers to a
woman’s general health care, and “obstetrics” is care for pregnancy. As an
obstetrician/gynecologist with AMS, Dr. Wikoff helps her patients choose the
healthcare and family-planning options that make sense for them on an individual
basis.
Gynecology
An important part of healthcare is
preventive medicine. This means regular checkups‑an annual pelvic exam,
Pap smear, breast exam and mammogram when appropriate to aid in early detection
of potential problems.
Dr. Wikoff is also dedicated
to diagnosing and treating certain illnesses, such as amenorrhea (the absence of
menstrual periods); menopausal difficulties; cancer of the uterus and ovaries;
and fertility problems. She also treats ectopic pregnancies, ovarian cysts and
performs gynecological and laparoscopic surgery when appropriate.
Obstetrics
Dr. Wikoff provides care for all
aspects of pregnancy, from pre-pregnancy counseling to post-partum care. She
will advise on prenatal nutrition and exercise and will help patients choose the
delivery options that best suit their needs.
An informed patient is a
more satisfied patient.
Educating patients is an important
part of the AMS philosophy. This means explaining your treatment in detail,
providing you with literature on your illness or treatment, and generally making
certain that you understand the care that is prescribed for you.
We’re here when you need us.
We try to schedule appointments
that are convenient for you. Our office is open from 8:30am – 4:30pm Monday
through Friday. To make an appointment, call and tell the receptionist
or nurse exactly why you wish to see the doctor. It will help us schedule the
right amount of time. If you are late for your appointment, we will try to
accommodate you, but it may be necessary to reschedule.
We make every effort to be on time
for your appointment. A hospital emergency or delivery will be the most common
reason for our being late, or for cancellation of your appointment. Please keep
us up-to-date with your phone numbers. Reshuffling the day’s schedule happens
often in an obstetrics practice (babies don’t understand that the doctor is
supposed to be in the office during office hours).
