Debbie Seymour, CNP

Ms. Seymour received her nursing degree from the Jewish Hospital College of Nursing, St. Louis, MO in 1995, and Advanced Practice Nursing certification from Barnes-Jewish College of Nursing and Allied Health at Washington University Medical Center in St. Louis, MO in 2005.

A nurse practitioner is a registered nurse with advanced academic and clinical experience, which enables her to diagnose and manage most common and many chronic illnesses, either independently or as a part of a health care team. Working in collaboration with AMS physicians, our nurse practitioners provide high-quality, culturally competent, individualized care, which AMS patients have come to expect over the years.

Ms. Seymour provides care for adult pulmonary and orthopedic patients. She will take medical histories, perform physical exams and tests, order and interpret lab studies and x-rays, and identify and treat problems and conditions that are often seen in the office.

Pulmonary medicine deals with diseases of the upper and lower airways and lungs, for example, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), emphysema, etc.

Orthopedics is the medical specialty that deals with diseases or injury involving muscles, bones and joints. Treatment of problems of the skeleton and muscles ranges from splints to surgery.

A few of the common problems patients bring to an orthopedic department are injuries such as broken bones, torn ligaments, and strained muscles. Treatment for such injuries might include the use of a cast or, occasionally, surgery to repair the damage.

Gynecology care is an important part of healthcare and preventive medicine. This means regular checkups - an annual pelvic exam, Pap smear, breast exam and mammogram when appropriate to aid in early detection of potential problems.

An informed patient is a more satisfied patient.

Educating patients is an important part of the AMS philosophy. This means explaining your treatment in detail, providing you with literature on your illness or treatment, and generally making certain that you understand the care that is prescribed for you. The more informed you are, the better able you will be to participate in your progress, so we encourage questions.
