MICHELLE M. BABB, M.D.

Board
certified in pediatrics and internal medicine, Dr. Babb received her medical
degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine. Dr. Babb completed a
combined residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at the St. Louis
University Medical Center. Dr. Babb treats adults and children of all ages.
Unlike
many physicians who choose to concentrate on a single subspecialty, Dr. Babb
uses her expertise in both pediatrics and internal medicine in her practice.
This enables her to treat a variety of illnesses in many age groups, and allows
her to see many members of the same family.
In
both pediatrics and her treatment of adults, Dr. Babb believes strongly in
preventive measures.
For
children, such prevention includes immunizations for the prevention of
infections and childhood diseases, as well as guidance for accident prevention
in the home. For adults, she emphasizes regular checkups in order to focus on
early detection of potential‑and silent problems such as heart disease,
high blood pressure and cervical cancer. Preventive medicine also means advice
on lifestyle changes that can help patients stay well.
As a primary care doctor,
Dr. Babb provides most of the elements of a patient’s routine care. This
includes Pap smears, cholesterol testing, and treatment or hospitalization for
illnesses. Of course, there are times when a specialist in another field of
medicine should be consulted. In these cases, Dr. Babb will refer her patient to
a competent physician in the required field.
An
informed patient is a more satisfied patient.
Educating
patients is an important part of the AMS philosophy. This means explaining your
treatment in detail, providing you with literature on your illness or treatment,
and generally making certain that you understand the care that is prescribed for you. The more informed you are, the
better able you will be to participate in your progress, so we encourage
questions.
